Who Said You Can’t Have Carpets When Owning Pets?

If you’re a pet owner of an adorable puppy or kitten, you will probably know the frustration of potty training!

It’s not a pleasant smell when pet urine is soaked into the carpets – but don’t worry – St Anne’s Cleaning have some steps you can take to get your carpets and your home smelling fresh again.

 

Step One: Scrape the Surface

You’d be surprised to how quickly your pet’s urine dries up, if that’s the case, you will need to begin by scraping the surface with a steel brush. Bodily fluids have a habit of creating such odd stains and smelly odours. If the stain is still wet, use a damp cloth or paper towel to dab it.

 

Step Two: Cleaning Solution

Mix up a solution of washing up liquid and warm water. It’s advisable to mix one teaspoon of washing up liquid into a cup of warm water, making your cleaning solution more effective against the fluid stains. Pour your solution into a bucket or bowl and gently dab the stain with a dishcloth dampened in the solution.

 

Step Three: Even More Cleaning Solution

If your youthful pets stay young for much longer, you will begin to feel like a wizard mixing up potions, as it takes a bit more than fairy liquid to handle urine stains. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar into half a cup of water, pour your solution into a bucket or bowl and stir it together and work your magic!

 

Step Four: Clear the Stain Away

If you’re having trouble getting the stain out, try to begin rubbing your cloth on the stain in small and circular motions, from the outside and moving in gradually. Try not to rush, as you want to be sure the solution has a chance to destroy the stain.

  

Step Five: Rinse and Dry

Once you are happy with the result, finish off the job by adding some warm water onto the surface, remembering to dry it afterwards. A wet carpet can grow mildew if not taken care of.

How Often Do You Wash Your Washing Machine?

Now that’s a hard question!

Luckily for us, the days of pounding our laundry are over, but unfortunately, we still have to nurture the device that makes our clothes clean.

If your washing machine smells worse than your wash-basket that’s a sure sign it needs a good clean…

Here’s our guide to a clean washing machine:

Step One: Gather Your Resources

Not only does our method make your washing machine sparkling clean, it’s also eco-friendly and very cost-effective! Here’s what you need:

  1. 2 cups of vinegar
  2. ¼ cup of water
  3. ¼ cup of bicarbonate soda
  4. 1 scourer and sponge

Step Two: Mix the Cleaning Solution

Begin with mixing the bicarbonate of soda and water together in a small bowl (detergent).

Pour the correct amount of vinegar into a cup. Simple, right? Put your solution to one side to use later.

Step Three: Scrub From the Inside and Out

Now it’s time to get your hands dirty! Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it seems, after all, it is a cleaning mechanism you are cleaning!

Rinse your sponge with fresh water and scrub away all the mould and dirt that’s inside your washing machine, also wiping clean the outside too.

To prevent a build-up of mould in the corners of your washing machine, keep the door slightly open to allow air flow to dry any water or dampness that’s inside.

How Often:

Cleaning the inside of your washing machine should be done once a month. However, the outside of your washing machine is potentially exposed to more dirt and should be cleaned on average, once every week.

Step Four: Laundry Time!

Now your washing machine is cleaned, so should your pipes. Using the cleaning solution you earlier mixed, put on a wash as normal but with old clothes, unless you like smelling of vinegar!

How Often:

This process should be done once every six months. Take care of your washing machine and it will take care of you!

If you’re one of those lucky people to own a tumble dryer, there’s no harm done to wipe that down too!

Easy Steps to a Clean Oven…

Is your oven so dirty that you you can’t really see inside it without opening the oven door?

And you pretend not to notice?

DON’T PANIC!

Act now and follow the St Anne’s Cleaning guide to your cleaning your oven!

Transforming a dirty oven to sparkling clean isn’t a simple task; however, there are a number of steps which can get the job done easily.

 

Here’s our Guide:

Before you start, it’s important to check the oven is off and cold.

Also, it’s also recommended to cover your gas jets and protect any visible heating elements.

Cleaning an oven is going to get messy – it’s a good idea to wear old clothes.

 

 

Step One: Remove Unwanted Burnt Food

Wearing rubber gloves, remove any food lying at the bottom of your oven.

Use hot soapy water (washing up liquid) or the traditional mix of baking powder and vinegar and soak your oven shelves in the solution. This will help break down any attached burnt food, we all know how clingy burnt food can be, right? For the best results, soak the shelves overnight.

If time isn’t on your side, spray your shelves with oven cleaner and place into resealable plastic bags – ensuring that you read the recommended safety precautions on your oven-cleaning product.

 

Step Two: Soak the Stubborn Stains

We all know it’s going to take major elbow grease to tackle tough oven stains, but what’s the hurry?

Why not multitask between other chores?

So, let’s get to the point. spray or sponge your cleaning solution into the corners of the oven and leave the solution to soften any burnt food stuck to your oven.

Meanwhile, scrub your oven racks using a  scourer, turning them halfway through. Rinse with warm water and leave them to dry in a convenient place.

 

Step Three: Inside the Oven

 

We all know that any cleaning solution can take some time to take an effect, inside and out of a dirty oven.

After your leftover burnt food decides to stop being so stubborn, use a damp sponge to clean inside the oven; remember to rinse your sponge to save yourself from being there all day. You want to clean the dirt, not spread it!

The difficult part is the corners!

Do you remember that kid in school who asked you to stick your head in the oven? Well no, don’t do it!

Use an old toothbrush soaked in oven cleaner to scrub the hard-to-reach areas in your oven.

WARNING: Don’t get anything electrical wet!

 

Step Four: Greasy Baking Trays

If you want shinning baking trays, place them in a sink full of soapy hot water and scrub what you can of the grease with a scrubber.

Boil the kettle (you might as well make your self a nice cuppa tea whilst you’re at it!)

Pour a cup of bicarbonate soda into the sink along with some boiling water (be careful not to scald yourself) and soak your hob with an oven cleaner.

Leave to soak for an hour whilst you enjoy your tea and biscuits. After the hour is up, wipe the dirt off your baking trays, which should be an easy task to do.

Since you have your cleaning tool at hand, wipe along your hob til there’s no dirt left.

 

Step Five: Glass Door

Now, for the finishing touch!

Using a glass scraper, scrub off the stuck-on-food.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to find oil and grease on your oven door. This can be removed with hot water and oven cleaner.

It’s recommended to place some old towels beside the oven to avoid a floor drenched in puddles.
